Camp Rosenbaum’s most significant educational centerpiece is our anti-drug and gang resistance program – GREAT is taught by a uniformed Portland Police Officer. The class reinforces Camp Rosenbaum’s citizenship themes and teaches the children how to resist violence and gangs through constructive decision-making, all while building positive relationships with law enforcement. In a highly facilitated and interactive setting, GREAT teaches campers the value of positive decision making through lessons on communication, empathy, goal setting, anger management and problem solving. The campers learn decisions they make in their neighborhoods can have a lasting effect on the entire community. OBJECTIVE: Teach children to resist the allure of gangs, drugs and violence. Teach healthy conflict resolution skills. Break down the stereotype of police officers.
